This research investigates the efficacy of D-mannose as an anti-adhesive substance in the treatment of uncomplicated urinary bladder infections. Total number that has been included in this research is 308 female patients, who had, at the start of the study, an acute inflammation the bladder for which they received appropriate antibiotic therapy. After being clinical and bacteriological confirmed that they were cured, they were divided into three groups. One group received D-mannose, the other nitrofurantoin as the recommended prophylactic antibiotic, and the third was not treated in any way. Repeated inflammation of the urinary bladder within 2 months in the group which was taking D-mannose appeared in 14,6 % participants, in the group treated with nitrofurantoin in 20,4 % participants and in the group without therapy in 60,7 % participants. Using enzymatic method, concentration of mannose in serum and urine was determined The results show that the contribution of D-mannose in the prnphylactic use of uncomplicated inflammation of the urinary bladder in women who are in rhe risk group for recurrent infection is efficient when compared with recommended antibiotic and more efficient without anything. D-mannose is a natural product, well tolerated and nontoxic, in relation to the antibiotic it causes fewer side effects.
