Despite daily advancements in science and medicine, diagnosing and treating prevalent diseases such as tumors still present significant challenges. Although tumors have been traditionally considered as genetic diseases, recent research highlights the crucial role of epigenetics in their onset and progression. The key research question of this study is: How do epigenetic changes influence the development and progression of tumors? Epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, miRNA regulation, histone and chromatin modifications, affect gene expression and subsequent cellular processes. Tumors can arise due to genetic or epigenetic factors, or a combination of both. The development and progression of many malignancies, such as acute myeloid leukemia, are closely linked to epigenetic modifications, with emerging therapeutic approaches focusing on reversing or inhibiting these changes. In addition to being essential for future treatment strategies, the presence of epigenetic modifications in tumors may serve as potential biomarkers for early detection and monitoring disease progression.
