Sažetak (engleski) | Carnivorous plants share many similarities with other plants, but also important differences. What connects them with other plants is that they also have the ability to perform photosynthesis, so they have leaves and chlorophyll, as well as flowers and stem. However, they are an exception to the plant genus. Because they inhabit habitats that are poor in nitrates and phosphates, and the food they receive from photosynthesis is not enough for their life, they had to develop some special mechanisms by which to catch prey. By these mechanisms, they catch prey in a very cunning way, break down and absorb the proteins of the captured prey. Different species are their prey, and the most common among them are insects. Carnivorous plants are very different in appearance, what they all have in common is the mechanism of protein breakdown.
This paper describes several of the most interesting genera (Dionaea, Utricularia, Drosera, Nepenthes, Genlisea, Drosophyllum). Their general characteristics, habitat, as well as the traps that characterize them are presented. |
