The Criminal Code and The Act of Serving a sentence of Imprisonment prescribe conditional release and conditions and manner of releasing prisoners from serving a sentence of imprisonment before its expiration. The last stage of serving a sentence of imprisonment, the release a convict from serving a sentence of imprisonment, before serving it until the end, is called conditional release. The request for conditional release initiates the procedure of conditional release before the competent county court. The request may be submitted by the prisoner, his attorney, family members of the prisoner with his consent and the state attorney. There are a few obligations for a released convict. The main condition is that he does not commit a new criminal offense while the punishment is still in force, otherwise the court will revoke the conditional release. Conditional release is conducted under the supervision of probation services. In the Republic of Croatia in 2017, a pilot project of electronic supervision was implemented, which showed that electronic supervision is a very useful and effective way of controlling convicts. There are three models of early release of prisoners: discretionary, mandatory and automatic early release. In Croatia, there is discretionary release, which is considered a good model for motivating prisoners to behave well while serving a sentence of imprisonment.
