Discrimination is the limitation and impossibility of realizing human rights for certain groups of people and individuals. When it comes to the field of work and employment, labor discrimination refers to labor rights and all other rights arising from work. Some groups of people have difficulty accessing and participating in the labor market, and among them are women who may be discriminated primarily because of gender, pregnancy and motherhood, and then also based on other grounds such as age, disability, nationality, religious affiliation and the like. The more reasons for discrimination, the less favorable a woman's position on the labor market is, and there are more consequences that negatively affect women's mental and physical health, work ability and efficiency, and quality of life in general. Work is extremely important for women because it provides them with financial independence and security, but it can also be a source of stress due to sexism and unequal division of household chores. These are also the main causes of discrimination against women in employment and in the workplace, which manifests itself in the form of women's work inactivity or unemployment, the glass ceiling and the gender wage gap. Another problem that affects women more than men is sexual harassment, which, along with the impossibility of harmonizing business and family obligations, represents the main obstacle for the participation of women and men in the labor market under equal conditions. This paper explains in detail the difficulties faced by women and the differences between women and men in the business world, as well as the ways in which equality can be achieved in the labor market and in society in general. In doing so, it relies on the existing Croatian and international legislative framework that prohibits discrimination and protects women's rights.
