Child abuse is any form of intentional or unintentional harm to the physical or mental health of the child. Forms of abuse are physical, emotional, sexual abuse and special forms of abuse such as 'shaken baby syndrom' and exploitation. Physical abuse refers to the expression of physical aggression of the parent towards the child. These include kicking, scratching, kneading, burning and sensory overload. Emotional abuse involves the destructive behavior of adults towards the child and involves the presence of hostile behavior and the absence of positive approaches. Sexual abuse is a series of activities in which the child participates due to the satisfaction of the sexual desires of adults. The longer a child is subjected to abuse, the more severe the consequences for pisihophysical development. Neglect is the failure of a parent or other person who is responsible for the child to meet the child's physical, emotional, educational and health needs. The consequences of neglect are observed through the cognitive, emotional and physical aspects. Neglected children have problems in peer relationships, with learning and concentration, and have low self-esteem.The Convention on the Rights of the Child is a fundamental source of children's rights that protects and improves the social and legal position of children. According to the Family Act, a child has the right to safety and upbringing in the family appropriate to his developmental needs. In addition, the Family Act lays down measures to protect the personal rights of the child, which may fall within the jurisdiction of the social welfare centre or the court. The aim of this paper is to analyze the types of neglect and abuse of children and to give insight into the domestic and international family law system for the protection of children's rights.
