Gender-based violence is pervasive and frequent violation of fundamental human rights in the world. The most common form of gender-based violence is intimate partner violence. Considering that the estimates of the prevalence of intimate partner violence vary depending on certain demographic and other factors, in order to better understand the described problem, the research „Gender prejudice and intimate partner violence“ was conducted in the area of Osijek-Baranja and Brod-Posavina counties. The aim of the research was to explore and describe the differences in attitudes towards gender prejudice considering certain factors such as gender, level of education and area of residence, but also to describe gender differences in the experience of experiencing violence by an intimate partner and the correlation between gender prejudices and the frequency of violence in intimate partner relationships. The purpose of this paper and research is to contribute to the understanding of the problem of intimate partner violence as the most common form of gender-based violence and providing concrete information about the prevalence of violence and supporting gender prejudices, according to which it will be able to act act preventively in the community and beyond. The purpose is also to encourage the community to recognize and systematically solve this problem in order to prevent and sanction it. Recognizing and researching gender-based violence and intimate partner violence brings us one step closer to eliminating and preventing it, which reflects the importance of researching this topic.
