The purpose of this graduate thesis is the analysis of interpretation of legal norms as well as showing the importance of interpretation for the legal system. The initial part of the thesis is dedicated to the notions of legal norms, legal system, and contradictions between the norms. Subsequently, the terms interpretation and the interpretation of legal norms are defined; the subjects interpreting legal norms and their influence on legal norms are analysed. Also, the notion of the interpretation of legal norms in its wider sense i.e. the application of analogy is explained. Having defined the notion of the interpretation of legal norms the methods of interpretation are analysed in detail with particular focus on a teleological interpretation, that extends through all other methods of interpretation. Further on, legal arguments within the framework of logical interpretations are analysed as the methods of the legal interpretations as well as their relation with the teleological interpretation. Among the arguments mentioned the focus is on the analogy as the method of extended application of the legal norm and the prohibition of its application in criminal law. Apart from arguments in legal system the procedures of restricted, extended and literal interpretation are analysed, as well as the collisions between these interpretations.. The last chapter is dedicated to legal vacuums, their controversies and the methods of their filling.
