The aim of this paper is to explain more closely the topic of the extraordinary termination of employment contracts , to give the best definition of it , but also to point out the problems that arise in theory and practice. It is necessary to show that this is quite a complex matter - and the legal definition is quite narrowly regulated which leaves plenty of room for reflection. In this paper, I first addressed the definition of termination of employment and termination of employment contracts, then I pointed to different types of of dismissal, and in the very merits of work I defined the extraordinary dismissal itself, as well as the reasons why it can be given, such as: investigative imprisonment of workers, abuse of the right to sick leave, criminal offence on the employer's damage, use of alcohol and means of addiction in the workplace... In order to achieve as best as possible with this institute of labour law - I stress that legal systems similar to Croatian such as Slovenian or German legislation need to be taken into account - but it is also necessary to explore the legal norms of other countries such as British, French or Spanish legal system. On that way it would explain more closely the topic of extraordinary dismissal in different countries , leaving room for the legislature to complement and refine certain shortcomings.
