Supercapacitors are electrochemical double-layered capacitors (EDLC) with the capacity ranging from 10, 100 or even to 1,000 farads. There are small-sized, having low energy density and high power density. Good performances of electric vehicles are gained by combining a battery and a supercapacitor. Supercapacitors have found its major breakthrough in electric and hybrid cars as an extra source of energy. They are long-running with the ability of charging and recharging number of times, which has been tested by using simulation. Supercapacitors have small serial resistance, thus having the ability of delivering high power. This allows them to be recharged fast. This is of high importance when it comes to recuperative braking; supercapacitors can be charged and discharged in the same period of time, which is the uncommon feature for electric batteries. The Green Cap (400F, 2.7 V) was selected for the purpose of testing the ability of supercapacitors to charge and discharge. The similar characteristics were obtained as in Matlab (Simulink). Moreover, the research of charging a battery by using supercapacitors has been also conducted. The battery has been charged for a short time, but with vibrations. The main reason why supercapacitors are still not able to replace batteries or fuel cells is the high price per farad.
