The aim of this paper was to present the process of rapid prototyping and rapid tooling by using additive technologies. Additive technologies or 3D printing represent cheaper and more practical alternative to the other conventional processes of production. They are still in the development stage, however, we can expect their peak in the near future. The modern market sets more strict regulations on the processes of development and production. It aims to satisfy the quality and flexibility in the shortest period of time while having the lowest costs possible. Therefore, this paper, investigates possible industrially applicable procedures of rapid prototyping and rapid tooling. The paper explores rapid tooling thoroughly. The procedures of rapid tooling were primarily developed in order to make their production more economical and efficient. The procedures are mostly used while producing small series of tools as well as tools for unique products. The paper is divided into several sections. The introduction offers general information about the 3D printing technology. The next sections describe how the different additive procedures work. The abovementioned sections contain the descriptions of fast production of tools which are followed by the comparison of technologies and their economic and technical features. The paper furthermore defines the use of additive technologies in the production of molds and it describes the process of production of molds on two printing devices that use different additive methods. The procedure of the production of molds was described for both of the printing devices. On the basis of devised molds, the final models were constructed. The conclusion describes the results of the practical work.
