Caries, trauma and periodontal diseases are among the most common causes of complete edentulism. Resorption of the alveolar ridge is a process that takes place after tooth loss and leads to a decrease in bone volume, which makes prosthetic rehabilitation difficult. With reduced bone volume, the patient loses the necessary bone support for the retention and stabilization of conventional complete dentures. The insertion of standard-sized dental implants of standard dimensions or mini dental implants (MDI) enables adequate retention of the prosthesis. By evaluating the height and width of the bone, as well as the bone density on the CBCT image, a decision is made whether the patient is a candidate for implant placement. Modern implant-prosthetic options for complete edentulism offer solutions such as implantretained dentures and implant-supported fixed bridges that sit on four (All-on-4) or on six implants (All-on-6). The minimum number of implants for the retention of mandibular overdenture is two, while for the retention of maxillary overdenture it is four. The LOCATOR® attachment system and the bar attachment system are frequently used to connect prostheses with implants in both jaws. A fixed bridge on four implants is considered the best solution for the mandible, due to its higher bone density than the maxilla, while a fixed bridge on six implants is the best solution for the maxilla. If primary stability is achieved, immediate implant loading can take place, and the patient will receive temporary prosthetic work momentarily.
