Alveolar ridge augmentation includes therapeutic procedures that reconstruct bone defects, which make it impossible to carry out edentulous jaw treatment with dental implant therapy. Bone tissue defects of the alveolar ridge most often occur as a result of edentulousness, infection, trauma, tumors or cysts. Before the implant placement, it is necessary to carry out a clinical and radiological analysis of the existent bone tissue. For this purpose, it is best to use CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography). If it is determined that there is a lack of bone tissue that prevents implant therapy, it is necessary to choose an adequate augmentation technique that will compensate for the tissue. These procedures can be applied before implant placement to ensure adequate bone volume or during implant placement if the defect is smaller and there is already adequate bone volume that will ensure the primary stability of the implant. The doctor of dental medicine should, in agreement with the patient, choose an adequate augmentation technique that will result in a successfully implemented therapy. If the alveolar ridge augmentation procedure is successful, the newly created bone volume will enable the implant placement and function.
