This master thesis primarily focuses on language activity of writing. New elementary and high school curriculum for Croatian language classes lists language activities of listening, speech, reading and writing as its crucial parts. All four language activities should be included from early on stages of teaching the language. Writing, as the most complex language activity, includes both reception and production of language and often becomes a challenging task for young students. Students tend to spend too much time writing in every other class and this results in no interest or motivation for tasks such as creative writing in Croatian language class. Language games and other motivational activities that develop student's creativity and imagination should be included in teaching students how to write. Purpose of the research that was conducted for this thesis was to find out what teachers think about current methods of teaching writing in Croatian language class. Research was conducted in a form of a questionare that 66 elementary school teachers from various schools filled out. It was assumed that teachers tend to use creative approaches when it comes to teaching writing and results have showed that teachers do use different language games and other motivational activities in order to motivate students for language activity of writing.
