It can be said with certainty that the preschool period is of great importance for the growth and development of every child. Precisely because of this, children must be introduced to physical activity from an early age and thus create healthy lifestyle habits. This paper will present research on the assessment of physical activity of preschool children using the pre-PAQ questionnaire, the aim of which was to determine how children and parents use their free time and how much they engage in physical activity. The research was conducted in 15 kindergartens in Zagreb, Croatia from July to September 2023 and included 53 respondents. The research was conducted in accordance with the principles prescribed by the Code of Ethics of the University of Zagreb. For the purposes of this research, the respondents were parents of children who attend the mentioned kindergartens. The research showed that more than half of the respondents' children do not attend any sports program and participate insufficiently in physical activity and recreation. Research results like these show that the cooperation of parents and preschool teachers, as well as all adults who are often close to children, is very important, and they must set a good example for the child. Preschool teachers should provide each child with suitable conditions and a stimulating environment for carrying out physical activities and play, while parents should ensure that the child engages in sports activities or some form of physical exercise outside the educational institution, be supportive of the child and encourage him in carrying out physical activities and other forms of recreation. This paper can be a basis for upgrading knowledge and research on this topic, and along with many other studies, it should raise awareness about the importance of physical activity, but also about data that indicate that the majority of the world's population is insufficiently active and faces health and other problems.
