A child expresses spontaneously because it has an inert inner need present with all children. Also, the child enjoys manipulating different artistic materials to investigate its surroundings, and itself also. Drawing connects the imaginary world with the world around them and with that the child complete freedom to express its feelings and thoughts. Harmony, spontaneity, expression and rhythmic characterize a child’s artistic expression. For a child’s artistic output to be complete, one needs to have many different and quality incentives, also materials and work tools which will boost a child’s imagination and freedom of expressing itself. In this paper drawing techniques are analyzed and studied as tools of expressing a child’s artistic side. In the introductory part of the paper we define a drawing, its history, as well as the beginning of children’s artistic creativity. The middle section talks about the theoretical part of drawings techniques, and it talks about the way one can present specific drawing techniques to children in an early and preschool age. The second part of the paper is based upon main artistic elements in children’s drawings and how to encourage children to be creative in educational institutions. One of the key needs a child has is for new experiences, which calls upon new ways of expressing and using given materials. The end goal of this paper is to analyse and study drawing techniques and ways children use them in expressing and investigating their artistic abilities and creativity.
