Many experts believe that preschool age is the most important period in child's growth. The human brain is undergoing through biggest changes where child absorbs knowledge with astonishing easiness and shapes his/her own growing with the help of surrounding environment. For living a life in a modern world, reading and writing skills are very important, therefore the child is preparing to master these skills from the earliest days. In his/her environment, the child is frequently confronted with written text, surrounded by stories, picture books and fairy tales that he/she reads with his/her parents. This phenomenon of early involvement in the world of text – reading and writing is called early literacy. Pre-reading and pre-writing skills are part of early literacy which is a vital segment of child's teaching and living. In order for a child to become a successful school student and educated citizen, it is important to set good foundations of early literacy, and most importantly to procreate a love for the book and desire for exploring new knowledge and skills. This paper will elaborate development of reading and writing skills, their understanding, techniques and means of enriching and expanding them. Also, the paper indicates great importance of parental and teachers active and engagement activity in promoting and teaching children, and ways of achieving skills.
