When talking about the military equipment used by medieval knights, it is primarily about arms and armor which were used on the battlefield. Seeing as how the term „knight“ isn't as straightforward as it would first seem, this paper characterises knights as those men who went through the training and the ceremony of becoming one. The introduction briefly talks about the life of a knight. The rest of the paper is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter talks about mail and plate armor. Mail armor is comprised of links while the plate armor consists of designed metal plates. Individual pieces of both types of armor are described, as are their flaws. Mail is weak against projectiles and stabs with a narrow blade, takes long to craft and has weak blow-absorption. Plate, on the other hand, offers superior defense against projectiles and blows. However, precise stabs with the blade to weak spots can still do harm. Moreover, the time to put on a full suit of plate takes longer. Plate armor is made out of individual parts which needed to be put together. This chapter also briefly explores the topic of medieval shields. The next chapter is about weapons. Sword and lance are the focus, for they are traditional knightly arms. Daggers, axes and maces are described as well. They could sometimes be described as knight's secondary arsenal. Weapons which knights rarely, if ever, used are halberd, gleave, crossbow as well as a bow and arrow. Also, those weapons were often used against knight on the battlefield. The last chapter seeks to connect the previous two chapters with the situation on medieval Croatian territory. It explores mentiones of armor and weapons as well as the sources which talk about them. The backbone of the chapter are scientific articles.
