The topic of this thesis is Changes in the equity of a joint stock company. The capital required for establishing and starting a business as well as for expanding the business of a joint stock company is called share capital, and it is collected through the issue or sale of shares. The share capital of a joint stock company is divided into shares, and the lowest nominal amount of the share capital is set at HRK 200,000.00. Share capital can be increased or decreased. Such changes in capital are statutory and are the responsibility of the Company's General Assembly. The General Assembly of the company decides to increase or decrease the share capital by a three-fourths majority of the votes cast at the General Assembly when deciding unless otherwise provided in the Articles of Association. The reasons for the change in share capital are mainly economic in nature. In this sense, the share capital increases due to raising fresh capital to finance the future ventures of the company, the reason may be the internal redistribution of capital in order to achieve certain shareholder goals regarding the dividend payment policy, the possibility of defending the company from takeovers, the replacement of certain debt for a share in the company, etc. When it comes to the reduction of the share capital of the company, the reasons primarily lie in the recovery of certain losses, while there are rare situations where the company has so much capital that by this procedure it intends to return its shareholders a share.
