The aging process brings numerous changes in the physical as well as in the mental and social functioning. The very notion of aging is marked by a stereotype, from which a number of negative and often incorrect beliefs about old age arise. The aim of the research: is to investigate the attitudes and opinions about the elderly in the local community (City of Dubrovnik) and what are the most common prejudices about the elderly? The opinion of respondents of different ages about the elderly will be investigated. It will be compared whether there are differences in the attitudes and prejudices of those surveyed between the ages of 20 and 40, with opinions between the ages of 40 and 60. It will also be determined whether there is a difference with respect to the gender of the respondents. Subjects and methods: The survey will be conducted among the residents of the city of Dubrovnik through two different age groups. The sample would be about 100 respondents in the age group of 20 to 40 years, and about 100 respondents in the age group of 40 to 60 years. Willis 2000). Survey participants will assess the accuracy/inaccuracy of claims related to common beliefs related to adulthood and aging. The results: The research showed that no statistically significant difference was observed with regard to the age of the respondents related to the beliefs and attitudes of the respondents about adulthood and age. This shows that the participants in the research did not show a prejudiced approach towards the elderly, which are certainly positive and encouraging results. Conclusion: It is necessary to constantly change negative perceptions and prejudices related to aging and old age. Special emphasis should be given to the development and implementation of promoting the health of the elderly. The importance of the elderly population as a potential social resource needs to be emphasized in the media. However, it is also important to show the positive and negative aspects of age in order to create knowledge and the level of sensitivity of this category of society. The education of the younger generation should include opportunities to connect with the older, understand their needs and accept.
