Diabetes mellitus is a multy-systemic dirorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia in which the body does not produce or incorrectly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for regulation of glucose blood level and metabolizing carbohydrates and fats. Due to the increasing number of patients, diabetes is a major public health problem that is approaching epidemic proportions globally. Skin disorders in patients with diabetes are the most common complication. Skin changes are divided into: changes directly related to diabetes (diabetes dermopathy), skin infections (bacterial, fungal or viral), skin disorders due to complications of the disease (vascular disorders and neuropathies) and allergic reactions caused by medications commonly used in therapy. Due to the fact that the majority of patients with diabetes mellitus have skin changes, we presented the epidemiology, cinical picture, diagnosis and treatment of the most common disorders in patients with diabetes. In order to establish a correct diagnosis and determine adequate therapy, we emphasize that the close cooperation of family doctors, dermatologist and diabetologist, as well as nurses, is necessary.
