Corrosion is both costly and dangerous. Billions of dollars are spent annually for the replacement of corroded structures, machinery, and components. Premature failure of bridges or structures beacause of corrosion can also result in human injury, loss of life, and collateral damage. The goal of this work is to get acquainted with the problem of corrosion, to study in what forms it occurs, and to present possible principles and technologies for metal protection from corrosion. The theoretical analysis deals with the general categorization of corrosion, where the division of basic corrosion protection technologies is described. The most attention is paid to corrosion protection based on the principle of creating a barrier between the protected object and the harmful environment using metal coatings, which as the main topic of this work includes electroplating technology, i.e. galvanotechnics. Electroplating is one of the most common methods of protection in today's production facilities. A number of factors influence the achievement of a high-quality protective coating, such as: dimensions of the workpiece, type of metal it is coated with, properties of the electrolyte, strength of the process current, duration of the process, and so on. The most commonly used metals for coating are copper, zinc, and nickel. It is very important to recognize certain factors and their effect on the final result in order to obtain the desired protective layer as efficiently as possible.
