This paper provides a closer insight into the characteristics of linguistic games, their purpose and benefits for children's language and speech development. The paper begins by explaining children's play in general and mentioning the theories of children's play through the viewpoints of different authors and its division. The divisions of children's games by different authors are explained, and in accordance with the division, there are also examples of children's games that can be carried out in preschool institutions, but also in the warmth of one's own home. Furthermore, the paper briefly explains the language-speech development of the child, which consists of the pre-language and language development phase. Accordingly, the paper elaborates the topic of linguistic games and its role in child development. Various linguistic games for the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing are mentioned and described. The benefit of language games on the development of a child's speech, motor, cognitive, moral and socio-emotional competencies is also analyzed. Furthermore, the topic of linguistic games in preschool institutions and the importance of their selection with regard to the possibilities, interests and age of the child is discussed.
