Construction in coastal conditions presents a series of intertwined problems for a constructor. In the beginning of the design process, it is possible to predict effects of seawater and adapt construction design to it. Those actions could affect mechanical properties of the construction and do not serve as a sufficient way of protection so additional measures are introduced. The proper choice of corrosion resistant materials which satisfy required mechanical properties is of great importance. However, usage of paint systems covers the largest area of corrosion protection methods. Following their ability to protect large areas of construction relatively quickly and easily it is possible to achieve specific protective and aesthetical properties and precisely target heavily corrosion affected areas. This undergraduate thesis follows entire technological procedure for corrosion protection of constructions made and operating in coastal conditions, surface preparation procedures and quality control after completed work with special focus on shipbuilding as an area operating in multiple corrosive environments requiring high quality construction and protection. In the end it presents the importance of proper handling and disposal of used material so its effects on environment would be minimal.
