The purpose of this paper is to present the concept of Antigone's character in modern Croatian dramatic literature taking into account the works: Ljubav u koroti (1957) written by Drago Ivanišević, Antigona, kraljica u Tebi (1981) written by Tonči Petrasov Marović, Kreontova Antigona (1983) written by Miro Gavran and Cvita, vitica, tica...(ili Moja dva brata i ja) (2012) written by Helena Peričić. Emphasis has been put on the importance of updating mythological themes in contemporary literature, particularly antigonal and antiantigonal motifs. The paper is also devoted to studying the effect of the influence of foreign literature since it is about dramas/plays that are more or less in direct intertextual relations with Sophocles Antigone, as well as with other literary works. Since an ancient Greek tragedy was taken as a prototype, there is a particular chapter devoted to Aristotle's rules on good writing in which it is analyzed how much contemporary authors respect Aristotle's principles. At the end of the paper there is a thorough analysis of all of the mentioned dramas, where the focus is not only on the interpretation of dramas, but also Antigone's character in each drama, as well as the philosophical and conceptual component – all for the sake of emphasizing the importance and universality of Antigone's character from antique to the modern times.
