Il tema di questa tesi è l’analisi intersemiotica del romanzo Gli indifferenti di Alberto Moravia e i due adattamenti in film del libro, Gli indifferenti (1964) diretto da Francesco Maselli e Gli indifferenti (2020) diretto da Leonardo Guerra Seràgnoli. La traduzione intersemiotica è un campo di studio abbastanza nuovo nel contesto degli studi di traduzione siccome è legato alla evoluzione di novi tipi di media. Questa tesi si concentra con la implementazione di varie teorie sulla traduzione intersemiotica, come quelle di Roman Jakobson e Umberto Eco tra altri, tramite l’analisi dei due adattamenti cinematografici. Le due versioni del film di Gli Indifferenti, sebbene essendo adattamenti della stessa storia, effettuano cambiamenti traduttologici in modi diversi. Il film di Maselli è la versione più fedele all’opera originale, mentre Seràgnoli situa il film in un contesto più contemporaneo causando un grado più grande di divergenza dall’originale. Attenzione particolare viene posta sulla presentazione dell’ambientazione, i personaggi, i cambiamenti traduttivi e la fedeltà all’opera di Moravia.

The topic of this thesis is the intersemiotic analysis of the novel The Time of Indifference by Alberto Moravia and the two film adaptations of the book, The Time of Indifference (1964) directed by Francesco Maselli and The Time of Indifference (2020) directed by Leonardo Guerra Seràgnoli. Intersemiotic translation is a fairly new field of study within the context of translation studies as it is linked to the evolution of new types of media. This thesis focuses on the implementation of various theories of intersemiotic translation, such as those of Roman Jakobson and Umberto Eco among others, through the analysis of the two film adaptations. The two film versions of Gli indifferenti, although being adaptations of the same story, make different types of translational changes. Maselli's film is the version most faithful to the original work, while Seràgnoli places the film in a more contemporary context causing a greater degree of divergence from the original. Particular attention is paid to the presentation of the setting, the characters, the translational changes and the faithfulness to Moravia's work.
