The purpose and goal of this final paper is an analysis of the provisions of international and national legal sources and legal sources of the European Union in the case of liability for marine pollution from ships. The paper mainly analyzes the most important provisions of international conventions in the subject matter. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the content of the following international sources: International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (CLC Convention), Convention on the establishment of the Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution (Convention on Fund), International Convention on liability and compensation for damage in connection with the carriage of hazardous and noxious substances by sea (HNS Convention), International Convention on civil liability for oil bunker oil pollution damage (Bunker Convention) and International Convention on civil liability for maritime transport of nuclear material (NUCLEAR convention). Also, the paper analyzes the basic provisions of the Croatian maritime legal sources, therefore the Maritime Code, the responsibility for marine pollution from ships. Also mentioned are the provisions of the Maritime Code of the offense and the criminal responsibility for the pollution of the sea. Finally, the paper and determine the content of the Directive of the European Union on the introduction of sanctions for marine pollution from ships compulsory for all Member States of the European Union. In conclusion, summarizing the contents of the fundamental provisions of the indicated legal sources in the subject matter.
