Skin tumors are considered the most common tumors, but ruminant skin tumors are generally rarely diagnosed and described. The occurrence of skin tumors in ruminants is associated with excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation and infectious agents (viruses from the Papillomaviridae family). In addition, the pigmentation of the skin and hair and the density of hair play an important role. Skin tumors are divided into benign and malignant according to their biological behavior, and the main division is based on the origin of the tumor cells, thus distinguishing between epithelial, melanocytic and mesenchymal skin tumors. Among these tumors, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) stands out. It is described in large and small ruminants, and is noted for its breed predisposition, local destructive invasion and low metastatic ability. Secondary skin tumors are rare in all species of domestic animals, and especially rare in ruminants. The diagnosis is based on histopathological examination and immunohistochemical methods. The treatment that comes into consideration is mostly only surgical excision and the prognosis will be based on several parameters.
