Metabolic diseases in dairy cattle are the cause of significant fall in the milk production. The main cause of the metabolic changes can be found in the negative energy balance. Negative energy balance causes a series of impairments in metabolic pathways. Negative energy balance can trigger multiple changes in the process of gluconeogenesis and fatty acids metabolism. Diseases like ketosis and fatty liver are directly connected with this condition. Understanding the etiology of this diseases can help us in their prevention. Preventing the emergence of this diseases is important due to their complications. Additional complications of this diseases can cause a subsantial expenditure for treating them. Some of this diseases are incurable like a high degree of liver fat infiltration. The problem worsens, if a large number of animals in a specific production cycle gets affected by any of this diseases. For example, ketosis can be considered a herd problem when occurs in a large number of cows at greatest risk (cows who are less than 6 weeks in lactation). Some animals never achieve the same production levels as before the disease.
