Recessions, as a negative amplitude of economic cycles, are an inevitable part of economic development. Recession-induced restructuring ultimately creates a stronger and more resilient economy that will more easily respond to the challenges of future crises and adopt adequate policies in a timely manner to prevent or mitigate their effects. The focus of this paper is primarily to provide insight into recessions throughout history, ranging from simple price bubbles to complex recent recessions such as the one from 2008.. The aim and final contribution of this paper is to identify common points of contact between individual occurrences of economic recession, so that, above all, it is easier to approach economic situations that show similar characteristics and potentially develop into recession. The hypotheses of this paper are based on the identification of crisis indicators and are focused on the modern financial environment within which there is room today for the development of a recession in future. The key research factors are economic indicators that indicate the emergence of a recession and are a relevant sample in the observed spectrum of economic recessions. The paper tries to show which economic indicators should be paid special attention to in the research of global recessions and how they correlate with each other during their development. The assumption is that there are highly correlated indicators of recession and the aim of this paper is to find key indicators and their connections.
