Communication is a term in social sciences that denotes the totality of different forms of relationships among members of society, with emphasis on transmitting a message to a person or group. Successful communication helps us to understand people, situations, build trust, and create the conditions for sharing creative ideas and finding solutions. Active listening is one of the major aspects of communication, which implies understanding of the message. Today, it is necessary to create awareness to the public about the importance of mastering oratory skills and the importance of learning about it. In this paper, public speech segments are presented in detail. Comparing the antique and contemporary understanding of a speaker, the basic characteristics of a good speaker are summed up. Defining rhetoric and speaking suggests the differences between these two terms. Rhetoric covers the art of speech and speech theory, while speaking involves the practical purpose of persuading the interlocutor of audience. In order for the speech to be successful, the audience intrigued, and the speaker satisfied, speech preparation and speaker exercise is the most important. The examples of three speakers show successful presentation and mastering of oratory skills. Mentioned suggestions and methods indicate the complexity of speech, which one can overcome with execise and preparation.
