Traditional games are a significant feature of national cultural heritage that are transmitted orally among generations. They were once an inevitable aspect of older population's childhood, but seem to be neglected in the contemporary world. The success of their preservation depends partially on the older memebers of the community which have the opportunity, as well as the possibility to transmit them to younger generations. The aim of this research was to question educators and early childhood or preschool parents about the importance, purposefulness and representation of traditional games in their children's childhood. Results show that respondents of older age, highly educated people, as well as educators and mothers of preschoolers in comparison to the fathers, estimate to a greater degree the importance of implementing the traditional games in the lives of today's generation. A statistically significant difference in the estimate of social values as a limiting factor of applying the traditional games in the modern world, has been determined among respondents raised in the area of Makarska Riviera in contrast to respondents who grew up in the area of Dalmatinska zagora, or elsewhere. Furthermore, a positive correlation has been established between the assessment of danger of outdoor play without an adult supervision and the estimate of children's preoccupation with the virtual world. The representation of certain traditional games has been determined as a result of research (Na male branke, Između dvije vatre, Školica, Ide maca oko tebe i Care, care gospodare) in the childhoods of today's generations. In contrast to these traditional games, an intergenerational transmission hasn't been determined for other games, such as: Na škajune, Na duvanjere, Na piske, or Kolo od barila. The research results have shown a high estimate of importance, but a rare representation of traditional games in the preschool period. Therefore, a proposal for future research is to conduct a longitudinal research that would systemetically keep track of the influence of their use on different aspects of early childhood and preschool education.
