A picture book is the first book that child meets in its life and it has a role of the „window“ to the world in the world which is unknown to the child. Through a picture book a child learns about itself and about the surrounding world. Observing the history, from the start of the formation of the picture book, it is visible how much its function and content have been changed till now. In this work it is stressed the role of the problem picture book, how much it can influence on the formation of the child's opinion, on its behaviour and how it has already been recognized as therapeutical medium. This children book gives tips, helps and heals and is a base of the concept of bibliotherapy. In the work there were mentioned a few examples of the problem picture books, which are often used in educational praxis. The target is to encourage the child and give it the insight that the issue or the emotion that bothers it is fine, and to offer it the possibility and the diversity of the solutions of one situation. Listening and hearing of the stories calms down, helps and shows to the children that they are not alone in this that they are going through. To attract the children’s attention, a picture book needs to be funny, which is a prerequisite for the message to arrive to the child and keep its attention. A picture book can be a good medium of the further activities, development of the creativity and imagination. By dramatization of the picture books, the children are introduced to the world of the theatre, where they could express themselves, be themselves or someone else. Creation of the imagination and developing of the social skills with the peers also makes the first friendships. A picture book can be a good base for making a happy and pleased person, which has, since the childhood, taught very well how to accept oneself and accept the differences that surround us.
