This paper presents some of the most commonly made traditional joints, which have been used in furniture making over the past centuries, and are among the almost forgotten skills that a relatively small number of workshops deal with today. This paper deals with the basic joints that are used mainly in the manufacture of furniture but also in traditional woodworking (houses, churches, temples, etc.) without the use or with minimal use of screws, nails and other aids. The history of furniture making is at the same time the history of the art of making joints, the evolution of which follows the emergence of the first civilizations and their intervention in everyday life. Analyzing the joints for wood, it was concluded that the most common are the so-called box joints and dovetails that were used to join wooden structures. In addition to the inspection of joints, at the end of the paper are described joints made with hand tools. In restoration, knowing them, facilitates and accelerates the dating of individual elements of furniture that is the subject of restoration. The very decorativeness of these compounds as well as the constructive ingenuity certanly deserves more attention and research, which greatly contribures to further research in joining and bonding wooden elements through historical periods until today
